Shave for the Brave News
The first 2012 Shave is on the books!
Posted on Jan 16, 2012
Frankie Reichert contacted us a few months ago about holding a Shave for the Brave. On January 6, 2012, Frankie and four other Shavers lost their hair at Princeton Secondary School in Tulameen, BC.
Frankie graduated from the high school last year and thought it would be a good location because it was in a central location and the students would be able to come watch as she Shaved her head along with two of the school's teachers and two other women from the community.
At last count, her Shave had raised $6,260.32. $5,604.82 was raised by Frankie herself! While she had been involved with fundraising activities before for her volleyball, basketball, and figure skating teams, this was the first fundraising event she initiated.
"I mainly got [donations] from the town I live in. Everyone knows everyone; they're really great. They have a go-to attitude," she said.
"One guy would just give me whatever was in his wallet whenever I saw him."
Frankie says she'll probably wait until her hair is long-enough to donate before signing up for the Shave for the Brave again, but she would be willing to help organize another one if people were interested.
We want to send a huge thank you to Frankie and the other Princeton Secondary School Shavers and supporters for starting the Shave season off on such a high note!
Take care, and keep your new bald heads warm!
