Shave for the Brave News
Academy Canada merged campuses to help young adults dealing with cancer
Posted on May 12, 2011

On May 11, 2011, Collette Johnson and her friend, Victoria, gathered 16 shavers at Academy Canada's Harding Road campus in St. John's where student stylists from the Kenmount Road campus got their clippers out for their Shave for the Brave. Overall, they raised just under $1,200!
A lot of hair fell, including one goatee that hadn't been shaved in almost 12 years. His two kids were there with his wife to see their dad's transformation. His wife only remembered seeing his chin once before!
After many students had Shaved, kids fist-bumped their dad, and toques were handed out, Collette decided she would Shave as well. She originally became a Head Hunter with the intention of shaving, but backed out because it is a daunting task. After participating in the event, she said she would do it if people would donate a fair sum of money on the spot. $170.52 later, she went under the clippers.
Thank you to the staff and students of Academy Canada for getting involved with the Shave for the Brave. We look forward to being in multiple locations for 2012!
