Mount Pearl Intermediate Skypes again—this time with St. Mary’s All Grade
Posted on Mar 25, 2011

Last year, Mount Pearl Intermediate in Newfoundland teamed up with Glenmore Christian Academy in Alberta the the first Skype event in Shave history. The schools set a goal of how many heads they wanted to Shave and how much money they would aim to raise between them.
On March 10 this year, MPI joined forces with St. Mary's All Grade in Mary's Harbour in Labrador for their 2nd Annual Skype Shave.
Liberal Leader Yvonne Jones, a breast cancer survivor who calls Mary's Harbour her hometown, was on hand to speak to the students about the good they were doing and how Shaving helps people with cancer. She even shocked some of the audience when she said she was bald herself, and wears a wig most of the time.
Geoff Eaton, Founder and Executive Director of Young Adult Cancer Canada, also addressed the audience about the impact the Shave for the Brave has on the young adult cancer survivors we work with each day.
MPI had a live link to St. Mary's All Grade projected onto a screen on the stage and we were able to watch as about 80 students in different parts of the province lost their hair.
Teachers at St. Mary's also contributed by offering to get hit with a pie in the face for a donation.
Over $8,000 was raised between the two schools and we were so happy to be there!
