Shave for the Brave News
YACC Community Shaves result in our biggest one-day total ever!
Posted on Mar 14, 2011

Although some communities, schools, offices, and individuals plan their own Shaves, Young Adult Cancer Canada holds them as well. On Saturday, March 12, our St. John's and Calgary offices went to local malls and Shaved a lot of heads. The end result was a staggering $130,000!
This was the 6th Annual Shave for the Brave in St. John's and we have seen how much it's grown after 408 people went under the clippers to support their home-grown young adult cancer organization. We had basketball teams, a fire department, a survivor with her kids and husband (who were cheered on by the basketball team she coaches), girls, boys, men, and women.
This was only Calgary's 2nd Annual Shave and they had around 23 people turn out, including Buzz Bishop from 90.3 Amp Radio Calgary, a bunch of mullets, some young adult cancer survivors, and Charleston Hughes from the Calgary Stampeders who Shaved after someone made a $2,000 donation!
With many more heads left to be Shaved, we can only imagine what's to come. We have been lucky to have growth each year and we are delighted to say this is shaping up to be the biggest and baldest event, once again.
Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday. We still have nearly 30 events to go! There will be a Community Shave in Red Deer, AB on April 9 and we're working on finalizing some details for Halifax, NS; Gander, NL; and Ottawa, ON, and people are signing up to hold Shaves in their schools, offices, and on their own.
Contact us if you would like more information on how you can get involved.
