Some tips for Shavers
Posted on Mar 01, 2011
Our Community Shave is 11 days away and we're getting very excited. While there have been a few events already, the majority of Shaves are yet to come. We have learned a lot of great tips from the early Shaves that make your experience as pleasant as possible so we thought we should pass them along.
Offline donations
If you are collecting cash or cheque donations, please write them all on your pledge sheet regardless of if they were entered as offline donations on your fundraising page. We had originally asked you to not include any you have posted online as offline donations but having a record of how much money should be submitted makes registration and verification a lot easier.
Donations can be entered as unverified pledges to add to your leaderboard total and to send an electronic receipt, but they should also be recorded on your pledge sheet for easy registration and verification. Please put a star or write "online" next to the item on your pledge sheet. You don't need to record any pledges submitted with a credit card through the Internet.
Clear as mud? Contact us at info@shaveforthebrave.ca or (709) 579-7325 if you have any questions.
Money

Expect to see long lines if you are Shaving at a Community Shave. One of the main reasons for a long registration process is disorganized money. Please roll your coins and keep your cash and cheques flat (not folded) so our volunteers can verify the amount matches the pledge sheet quickly so you can get Shaved!
Also, please make sure your pledge sheet is tidy, the amount of money you brought matches what’s recorded, it’s filled out (donor name, mailing address, email address, amount, and if they want a receipt), and any pledges you didn’t collect are crossed off.
Hair

You should wash and dry your hair on the day of the Shave (we can’t cut wet hair). You are welcome to braid your own hair before you arrive but we will have braiding stations onsite. If you are not Shaving, use two or three braids, secured at both ends, braided 10 inches from the bottom. If you are shaving, braid multiple little braids, and fasten an elastic near your scalp.
Miscellaneous

If you’re Shaving with a group, make sure to show up together so your Shave numbers are consecutive and you’ll all get called up together. Feel free to wear your uniforms or something to identify your members.
Don’t forget to bring your cameras to capture the whole experience—before, during, and after! You’re going to want to remember the moment you made a difference in the lives of young adult cancer survivors. We would also love to post your photos on our website and Facebook page. Email them to angie@youngadultcancer.ca with the name and date of the Shave you attended and a few words about your experience.
Stay tuned to Shave News for updates, tips, and stories of interesting people!
