Over thirty one thousand dollars. One hundred and forty two shavers. Two provinces. One unbelievable Shave for the Brave - via Skype!

The first inter-province Skype shave went off without a hitch. Glenmore Christian Academy in Calgary, Alberta, and Mount Pearl Intermediate in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland held their Shaves simultaneously on March 5, 2010. Connected not only by audio but by video as well, the two schools co-hosted a television-like event that was SUPER fun, and an incredibly powerful experience.

HUGE thanks to head hunters Mike Lang (Young Adult Cancer Canada’s regional coordinator in Calgary) and Keith Bradbury, guidance counsellor at Mount Pearl Intermediate - your initiative and organization were AMAZING and your support is truly appreciated!

On Tuesday, March 23, two-time past Shave participant, Mount Pearl Intermediate, issued a challenge to Glenmore Christian Academy, also via Skype, asking for their help in reaching a combined goal of 150 bald heads and $20,000 raised for young adults with cancer. While they didn’t QUITE reach the number of heads, they BLEW away the fund-raising goal and we are so impressed! The total of $31,000 + will help send at least 31 young adult cancer survivors to a four-day Retreat Yourself weekend to share with their peers and connect with others who “get” what they are going through.

Thanks again to everyone involved in this event - from shaving, to set up, performing, donating time and money… this event will have a huge impact for the young adults we help with cancer this coming year.
