Mane Mamas how to
Not a mama? Not to worry. Mane Mamas are the Shave supporters who aren’t up to shaving this year for whatever reason but still want to be involved and help everyone else who is.
The main job of a Mane Mama is to spread the word about the Shave and to get others to donate or participate. You’ll get a Mane Mama badge when you register.
The physical button will let people know you’re participating and will likely entice questions about what a Mane Mama is and how you are one. There’s also a digital badge to use on your social media sites. It looks the same and helps solidify your dedication.
Registration
This year, for the first time, Mane Mamas can register to collect pledges online just like Shavers. Gone are the days of paper pledge sheets for those of you who dedicate your time and energy to supporting Shavers! You'll be able to get a link to an online fundraising page that you can post on your Facebook and Twitter pages and email to friends and family members who may want to sponsor your Shaver.
If you want to do a little more other than letting everyone know you’re a Mane Mama and what that means, you can help out a Head Hunter to make their event a little more incredible or help collect pledges on behalf of a Shaver.
Mane Mama Mantra:
- I will help young adults with cancer by wearing my Mane Mama badge.
- I will wear it every day.
- I will put my digital badge all over my digital world (Facebook, Twitter, cell phone, computer desktop, etc.)
- I will help build hype by telling all my friends about the Shave for the Brave and recruiting them as Mane Mamas.
- I will help raise funds for friends who are Shaving.
Why we do it
Now, since you’ll likely get asked, why do we Shave for the Brave?
7,000 Canadians between the ages of 15 and 39 will get diagnosed with cancer this year. That’s 19 a day.
Life is different when you're a young adult; it makes sense for it to be different with cancer, too. Young Adult Cancer Canada is the country's only organization concentrated on the young adult population on the national level. Think your grandpa’s friends want to talk about fertility, cultivating a career, maintaining friendships and relationships, building financial security, or starting a family? They have kids and grandkids, and they have retired to their vacation homes and have different things to talk about. Young adults need to talk to young adults. That’s what our programs offer and the incredible amount of money the Shave raises goes a long way in funding those programs.
We’re not raising money to swim in it like Scrooge McDuck, lease swanky office space, or film expensive commercials. Our efforts revolve around helping young adults make the rest of their lives the best of their lives. They have a lot of living left to do and cancer can cause a deep and dark void. We want to encourage positivity, hope, and inspiration by confronting the issues head on, not hiding from them.
Thank you for your support.
