Want to be a Head Hunter?

We’re not asking you to look for new star employees or shrink the head of someone you killed; we just want you to look for people who would take a little time to shave their heads to support the Shave for the Brave.

Maybe you’re already planning on shaving and have a friend or two who you could convince to do it. Perhaps your school or office participated last year but no one has stepped up to organize anything for 2012. Wherever your headhunting call is coming from, answer it.

We’ll be here to help with whatever you need to make your event a success (by the way, we consider a success to be a shaved head and the price of registration, and another person aware of YACC). Our Shave in a Box contains everything you’ll need from “I’m Shaving for the Brave!” badges to the gorgeous yellow toques.

Apply

Put your clippers and megaphone down for a minute. We need you to apply first to check a couple of things like making sure your event doesn’t conflict with another Shave in your area.

We’ll be in touch shortly thereafter to discuss the details and let you know
the next steps.

Pick a date and location and tell people about it

Before you can ask people to shave, you need to let them know when and where. Having those two details will turn your idea into an event.

Stick up some posters, invite people on Facebook, call your talk radio programs, whatever you want to do to get the info out.

Find heads that would look great bald

You never know who you can get to go under the clippers with the phrase, “you know, you’d look great bald.” We’ve had everyone from students and teachers to the CEO of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and the former Finance Minister of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Don’t think you need to aim high to get on the map; every head (and Hunter) gets the same amount of appreciation regardless of how many media outlets show up or how many shiny domes you have to look at in class. We see opportunity and awareness with each swipe of the electric razor.

Once people commit, direct them to the Shavers page to learn what their involvement entails and why it means a lot to us.

We wouldn’t be where we are without all those heads.

Why we do it

Now, since you’ll likely get asked, why do we Shave for the Brave?

7,000 Canadians between the ages of 15 and 39 will get diagnosed with cancer this year. That’s about 19 a day.

Life is different when you're a young adult; it makes sense for it to be different with cancer, too. Young Adult Cancer Canada is the country's only organization concentrated on the young adult population on the national level. Think your grandpa’s friends want to talk about fertility, cultivating a career, maintaining friendships and relationships, building financial security, or starting a family? They have kids and grandkids, and they have retired to their vacation homes and have different things to talk about. Young adults need to talk to young adults. That’s what our programs offer and the incredible amount of money the Shave raises goes a long way in funding those programs.

We’re not raising money to swim in it like Scrooge McDuck, lease swanky office space, or film expensive commercials. Our efforts revolve around helping young adults make the rest of their lives the best of their lives. They have a lot of living left to do and cancer can cause a deep, dark void. We want to encourage positivity, hope, and inspiration by confronting the issues head on, not hiding from them.

Thank you for your support.
